Voluntary Disclosure
Sometimes life happens and taxes get neglected. We understand that, and to a certain extent, so does the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
As such, the CRA has a voluntary disclosure program to give you a second chance to change a tax return that you previously filed or to file a return that you should have filed. If accepted, the CRA can grant relief of penalties and prosecution.
Voluntary disclosure is available to: individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and more.
Generally, you only get one try at voluntary disclosure, so it is important that you get it right the first time. If you think you might have an error on a previous tax return, or if there is a tax return that you have not filed, please contact us to determine if you are eligible for the program.
Taxpayer Relief
Often voluntary disclosure and taxpayer relief go hand in hand. Many people are not aware that they can get relief of penalties or interest if the penalties or interest was as a result of:
- Extraordinary circumstances
- Actions of the CRA
- Inability to pay or financial hardship
- Other circumstances
